This election cycle, we have been more active than ever, hosting a televised Mayoral Debate in partnership with 6abc and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, three City Council At-Large Candidate Forums, launching the inaugural 2023 Election Hub, and consistently communicating candidates’ positions on priority issues that impact our business community.

Our City’s Tipping Point
Philadelphia stands at a pivotal moment as we prepare for a new era of leadership at City Hall. We need elected leaders who are committed to investing in inclusive economic growth and building a safer, cleaner city. The outcomes of the Tuesday, November 7, 2023, election will determine the trajectory of our city and region for years to come. Electing pro-growth, pro-business leadership will stabilize our economy and make Philadelphia an attractive hub for new businesses and talent, leading to job growth and a safer, cleaner environment for all residents.
The Chamber’s Stance and Advocacy Efforts
The Chamber has long advocated for a healthy business climate and a more equitable regional economy. Our position on local issues is clear: we actively support policies and initiatives that promote inclusive growth, diversity, and equity in our city. This year, the Chamber and our partners have made significant strides in improving the ease of doing business in the city, reducing business costs, and advocating for a safer, cleaner Philadelphia.
Our advocacy in support of the city’s Permit Navigator has made permitting information more accessible, benefiting various businesses from retail to healthcare. We have also been at the forefront, challenging legislative initiatives like the Wealth Tax and Rent Control, ensuring a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
Our continued efforts to reduce the cost of doing business in Philadelphia have been fruitful. Through the Inclusive Growth Coalition (IGC), in partnership with the city’s diverse chambers, we have successfully advocated for reductions in the City’s Wage and BIRT Taxes over the last two years, making Philadelphia a more competitive place to live and do business.
Safety, Cleanliness, and Community Engagement
A city’s economic growth intertwines with its safety and cleanliness, and we recognize the impact issues like property crime, retail theft, and illegal dumping have on Philadelphia’s economy. The Chamber has engaged with the District Attorney’s office and other stakeholders to address these challenges, advocating for actionable solutions, including increased funding for forensics technology, promoting programs like the city’s Business Security Camera Program, Community Life Improvement Program, and more.

With only four incumbents on the ballot, the outcome of this particular race is extremely important as it will bring new faces to City Hall, along with new leadership and priorities.
