More than 70 of the PGA TOUR’s top golfers, including big names like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Collin Morikawa, will be in Philadelphia next month, May 7 to 11, 2025, to compete in the prestigious 2025 Truist Championship  at the acclaimed Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon course in Montgomery County, Pa.

The 2025 Truist Championship’s Philadelphia location is part of Truist Financial Corporation’s (Truist’s) deal with PGA TOUR as the championship’s new title sponsor. Typically, the annual championship is held at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina, where it will return next year.

This year’s Philadelphia stop reflects Truist’s strong presence in the Greater Philadelphia region as the region’s eighth-largest bank, with over 66 branches currently operating in southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and Delaware. It also showcases the company’s commitment to supporting the region’s economic vitality, including as an investor in The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.

The event is anticipated to generate a significant economic impact for the Greater Philadelphia region and shine a global spotlight on the region’s assets and attractions. Between 12,000 and 15,000 spectators are expected to visit the Wissahickon Course each day of the championship. Additionally, the tournament’s broadcast will reach over 200 countries in 30 languages, presenting Philadelphia to a worldwide audience.

Truist Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers shared with the Philadelphia Business Journal his goal of making the one-off golf tournament for the region feel like “a true Philadelphia event,” bringing on several local food and retail brands, including Federal Donuts and Chicken, Gazzos Steaks, Hangry Bear Creamery, and special co-branded merchandise with Underdog Apparel, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce’s clothing line.

At a media event last month promoting the event, Truist’s Regional President for Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Travis Rhodes, shared his excitement and pride around Philadelphia hosting next month’s championship, saying, “The PGA TOUR and Truist chose Philadelphia not because of a sponsorship deal, but because of the passion we have in Philadelphia – the sports, the golf history, the beauty of this place. It gives me great pride as a Philadelphian to see Philadelphia on the international stage, and to have the city and community rally around us.”

Rhodes added that this prestigious event will further highlight Greater Philadelphia’s status as a premier destination for world-class events and demonstrate its ability to attract and host high-caliber tournaments and sporting events, noting the Truist Championship will be a warm-up to an even bigger year in 2026 when Philadelphia will host six FIFA World Cup matches, expected to bring 500,000 visitors and generate a $770 million economic impact. Additionally, the MLB All-Star Game and the nation’s 250th-anniversary celebration will further cement Philadelphia’s status as a premier destination for world-class events.
