What are some ways organizations can have its work stand out on social media?
The look and tone of marketing and communications videos on social media are in constant flux. It’s a dynamic and challenging space to win in. Sometimes it’s not about the best-looking video; sometimes, it’s about the right video for right now. Being informed, fast, and fun can give you the edge.
To be informed, try and stay current on the marketing trends present in the business verticals that your clients operate in. Your clients need you to know what is now to help them define what is next. This perpetual self-education takes effort and energy but is always worth it.
To be fast, the following production guidelines work well for social media video:
Lighting – don’t get bogged down with extensive light set-ups, and use the sun as much as possible, even indoors.
Script Your Edit – put snap zooms, finger-snap, and hand-swipe transitions into your scripts to make them integral to the creative (and so you don’t forget to shoot them).
Shoot A Lot – more shots can create a more energetic edit with quicker cuts to keep the pace exciting and your audience wanting to see what’s next. Also, building a library of content is a good idea. Try to shoot stills while shooting video for use in other non-video social media campaigns.
Brand Consistency – using on-brand colors, shapes, and type for covers, reels, and in-video graphic content goes a long way to making a video feel part of the larger brand experience. Having this graphics kit ready to go is a time saver too.
To be fun, make sure that your clients are as engaged in the process of regular content creation as you are. Try to be as collaborative and available as possible to make for easy, fun, and productive shoots. If your client is enjoying this as much as you are, then there is a good chance you’ll be doing this again… and again… and again.
So how informed, fast, and fun is your social media content team? What can be done to improve one of those aspects? These are the questions to ask yourself frequently. The answers will help deliver better results for your clients.
