What are the cornerstones of embracing supplier diversity and supporting small businesses that can be planned for and implemented, regardless of industry?
I am very passionate about supplier diversity, sustainability & local content in supply chain procurement and leveraging technology to disrupt this space!
In the new world order driven by de-globalization, supply chain disruption, trade war, climate change, social justice and political instability, there is a theme emerging that is going to form the cornerstones of society embracing diversity, equity & inclusion – Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) policies.
Currently, global Assets Under Management (AUM) using ESG strategies are about $60 trillion & growing, and de-globalization is leading to trillions of dollars of supply chain spending per year being localized. What’s more, digital transformation of various legacy systems could reach $100 trillion over the next decade!
Regardless of industry, in the new ‘Glocalized’ (Globalization + Localization) world, robust support for small businesses and diverse suppliers needs to be intentional, focused, and driven by achievable goals. This will greatly improve economic growth, job creation and wealth in underserved & under-resourced communities.
To truly transform supplier diversity for future challenges, organizations must digitally transform supply chain procurement to be data-driven, automated, and sustainable in alignment with company ESG strategies.
It was an honor to be involved as pioneer member of the Chamber’s DPC initiative and to have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people with various life and professional experiences!
In terms of exposure to new opportunities as a result of being part of Chamber’s DPC, it is still work in progress, but I believe continued collaboration and knowledge-sharing among DPC members can lead to business opportunities and growth.
Through Recharge & Recover PHL, the Chamber is working towards Philadelphia becoming a place known for investing in and growing small, Black- and brown-owned businesses.
This objective is part of five aspirations of Recharge & Recover PHL with the aim to support not only Greater Philadelphia’s recovery but to also provide a means to differentiate our region for decades to come.
