A message from the Chamber’s President & CEO Rob Wonderling to our community about our collaborative approach to regional transportation and infrastructure projects.
Dear Friends,
We’ve been watching D.C. closely in recent weeks to see if much needed support will finally be extended to our state and local governments through the next round of federal stimulus. The Chamber has been advocating for this support as far back as March 2020 and, while the timeline has not been ideal, we’re heartened to see that dollars will likely be flowing into our region in the coming months.
In anticipation of this support, the Chamber has been convening regional stakeholders to conceptualize how those federal dollars can help drive (and in some cases ride, fly, and sail) our region into a connected and prosperous future.
Consisting of private-sector leaders from our CEO Council for Growth, our regional Congressional Delegation, Southeastern Pennsylvania County Commissioners, and representatives from the City of Philadelphia, these conversations focus on identifying and prioritizing key transportation and infrastructure projects that will modernize transit, the airport, and our ports.
The group is also focusing on funding for applied R&D to advance technology improvements in all facets of our region’s infrastructure. These innovations have the potential to position our city and region as a hub for the development of technology that will address the infrastructure issues related to climate change and sustainability, making our future not only more prosperous but healthier and greener as well.
And, as we’ve outlined in our Recharge & Recover PHL work, making our region the healthiest and most livable community in the Northeast only starts with the fight against COVID-19.
