Every other Friday, we’ll bring you a round-up of positive news about how Chamber members are making a difference in our community.
Almac
As the global pandemic continues, Almac has made sure they’re continuing to do their part in the fight. The pharmaceutical company has supported over 80 separate crucial research programs to accelerate COVID-19 treatment. The company also made an over $300,000 donation to 33 charities globally in the wake of COVID-19, with three locally-based recipients including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The organizations were chosen directly by Almac’s Pennsylvania employees based on the roles these organizations serve in their communities.
Lincoln Financial Group
The economic crisis as a result of COVID-19 has made a significant impact on many Americans’ wallets, making it difficult to pay rent. Lawmakers have continuously pushed back an eviction moratorium, and as the deadline was approaching, Lincoln Financial Foundation and hosted an educational webinar on eviction on August 18.The webinar featured a conversation with the Urban League of Philadelphia’s Andrea Custis along with fellow legal experts to discuss everything Philadelphians and Pennsylvanians need to know about getting financial support for housing payments.
Opera Philadelphia
As we head into Fall with social distancing orders still in place for the foreseeable future, many businesses and organizations who rely on in-person events are shifting to a virtual environment. Opera Philadelphia is moving its season from the stage to the screen with the upcoming launch of the Opera Philadelphia Channel available on a variety of platforms. Opera Philadelphia hopes to continue the momentum for American opera companies to perform more relevant works that also showcase the diverse makeup of the United States. The channel will create a digital space in which artists can perform and explore through a series of new commissions by visionary composers and dynamic performances produced for the screen.
Salus University
Getting to the eye doctor is a privilege many economically disadvantaged kids don’t have. Add a global pandemic to the mix, and it becomes even harder to get vision care. Since 2007, Salus University has committed to providing comprehensive vision care services to disadvantaged children in Philadelphia and its surrounding communities through its “Looking Out for Kids” initiative. The charity continues to operate during these unprecedented times to ensure children who suffer from vision problems, and now also audiology problems, have a fair chance at succeeding in their education and beyond.
