Each Friday, we’ll bring you a round-up of positive news about how Chamber members are making a difference in our community.
Arcweb Technologies
Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic has been an all-hands-on-deck effort from the Greater Philadelphia region as a whole. Arcweb Technologies, a digital product development company focused on the finance and healthcare industries, is no stranger to collaboration. Recognizing the increasing need for PPE, the company worked with a local non-profit to bring an early version of a 3D printer back into service to help produce PPE and medical supplies for the region.
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology
Researchers and health care professionals across the country are joining forces to fight COVID-19. Faculty from Harrisburg University of Science and Technology have stepped up in many ways to contribute to the fight. Among its faculty include, Dr. Erik Hefti, Pharmaceutical Sciences program Executive Director, and a clinical pharmacist at a NY COVID-19 treatment center who compounds some of the drugs that are being used to treat COVID-19; Geoffry Roche, Director of Strategic Healthcare Initiatives, who serves on a national COVID-19 task force created to fight the virus in racial and ethnic minority, rural, and socially vulnerable communities; and John Quiqley, Director of HU’s Center for Environment, Energy, and Economy, who is working with local water treatment systems to test sewage to help determine COVID-19 cases throughout Dauphin County.
Henry A. Davidsen
The economic crisis has resulted in a large increase in unemployment. Recognizing the opportunity to support those without job security or in search of a job, Henry A. Davidsen has joined forces with Career Wardrobe for their OutFIT for Work Fund. The fund will support anyone unemployed due to COVID-19 to shop for any professional clothing they may need and job search support through online consultations. For every $500 bought in Henry A. Davidsen gift certificates, the company will donate $50 to the fund.
TD Bank
In May, TD Bank launched “Backbone of the Economy,” a campaign dedicated to sharing the incredible stories of tenacity and triumph amid the COVID-19 pandemic. From local coffee brewers and historic community theaters to health clinics serving the underserved and even an 11-year-old 3D printing masks for health care workers, this was all about celebrating the people and organizations that serve as beacons of hope through this pandemic. As the Bank put it, “Collectively, you are the Backbone of the Economy. We’re in this together and we’ll get through this together.”
United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey
A pandemic doesn’t stop the need for childhood education – and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey had no intention of halting its Vello program, a 1:1 volunteer reading program aimed to help children learn to read proficiently by 4th grade. As part of United Way’s Early Grade Literacy programming, the organization pivoted the program to a virtual setting to continue the weekly guided reading sessions by empowering teachers, parents, and caregivers with new age easy-to-use literacy tools to support youth success.
