Each Friday, we’ll bring you a round-up of positive news about how Chamber members are making a difference in our community.
Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware Valley Chapter
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter created a communication to stay connected with constituents in PA, NJ and DE. Partially funded through a Pennsylvania Department of Aging grant, the “Staying Connected” self-mailer offers ways the Alzheimer’s Association stands ready to help, including tips for COVID-19 caregivers, virtual education programs and support groups, and the 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900.) The piece also included information for staying connected to the mission of ending dementia such as participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the Run to Remember, or volunteering. In addition to keeping constituents informed, the organization has been advocating to ensure testing access for all long-term care communities in response to growing concerns that coronavirus-caused social isolation among people living with dementia may contribute to cognitive decline.
McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC
To advocate against racial injustices and show its support for social justice, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC announced its participation in the new Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA). LFAA is a partnership of more than 185 law firms dedicated to addressing racial injustice through large-scale pro bono projects and using its position to advocate for change in laws and polices that encourage, perpetuate, or allow racial inequality. The law firm, along with fellow Alliance members, plans to devote substantial pro bono resources to initiatives addressing systemic racism and understand their responsibility to increase diversity, equitable access to opportunities, and inclusion of people of color within their ranks.
Qurate Retail Group
In an effort to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within their company and in society at large, Qurate Retail Group has announced an initiative to help 40 Black-owned businesses gain more visibility through their Small Business Spotlight in partnership with a national nonprofit. Using its production resources, television broadcasts, and digital platforms, the company is featuring the Black-owned small businesses on air, online, on social, and on their streaming services. A day will be dedicated to 20 of the selected businesses with live airings on their main QVC and HSN channels; the additional 20 businesses will be featured on QVC.com and HSN.com. The initiative aims to help these businesses navigate today’s challenging retail environment.
United Safety and Survivability Corporation
As COVID-19 began to impact our region, United Safety and Survivability Corporation shifted their production line to heavily focus on manufacturing PPE products after seeing an increase in demand due to the pandemic. Since then, the company has donated more than 50,000 face shields to individuals, small businesses, and hospitals. Recognizing the vast population of essential workers who need PPE, the company began social media outreach and set up a gofundme page for donations to continue to supply PPE to these workers. More recently, United Safety announced that the company is ramping up availability of an innovative product that will deliver active air purification technology for mass transit that eliminates 99% of airborne viruses, bacteria, and other pollutants, including COVID-19.
