Each Friday, we’ll bring you a round-up of positive news about how Chamber members are making a difference in our community.
Diversified Search
A summer of social justice activism has sparked demand in searches for diversity officers. And while Diversified Search, a senior-level executive talent search firm, has always made diversity a priority, the firm has been inundated with requests to help organizations of all sizes diversify their executive leadership. In addition to its DEI efforts, the firm’s founder and chair, Judith von Seldeneck has made investing in education and learning a priority, having recently joined two business partners is donating an $800k corporate aircraft to the Pennsylvania College of Technology for use in the college’s aviation maintenance program.
First National Bank
First National Bank (FNB) is committed to supporting its local communities, making sure businesses and individuals have the resources they need to recover and thrive. Named a Standout commercial bank for its COVID-19 response, FNB funded $2.6 billion in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans that provided direct relief to nearly 20,000 businesses. The Bank has contributed significant resources to address the impact of the pandemic, including a $1 million donation to its Foundation for COVID-19 relief efforts, on top of ongoing contributions to food banks, local businesses and healthcare professionals. Building on its important mandate to support vulnerable and traditionally underserved communities, FNB has also made a $250 million pledge to address economic and social inequity in low- and moderate-income areas.
As businesses and organizations began to shift to a virtual workplace, it took some time for teams to adjust to the new environment. As City Council’s technology provider, The Kimmel Group was given the task to design a solution for presenting the City of Philadelphia’s council sessions virtually. Not only did the company hold Council’s first virtual session, the Kimmel Group also held their first virtual budget hearing with close to 100 of the City’s leaders in virtual attendance, all while ensuring there was a way for the public to comment virtually. This work helped to enable Council to pass the budget before the June 30th deadline and also enabled Council to pass legislation that earmarked funds for COVID-related expenses.
The Satell Institute
Back in May, the Satell Institute announced the Ed Satell Million Dollar Match Opportunity, an emergency funding initiative to support the widely diverse nonprofit affiliate members of the institute so hugely affected by the COVID-19 crisis and economic downturn. The Institute’s proactive challenge for the benefit of the hard-hit nonprofits that contribute so much value to the community was a matching gift opportunity thanks to a $1,000,000 contribution of personal funds by Founder Ed Satell. The challenge was a huge success, raising $2,948,553.
