How does Greater Philadelphia’s energy landscape present opportunities for business?

When our company contemplated our next geographic expansion, Greater Philadelphia quickly stood out as a region of great opportunity and the logical location to invest for several compelling reasons.

To add some context, Sanborn Head was founded in New England as an engineering consulting firm that applied its technical expertise to help clients solve geo-technical and environmental engineering challenges associated with urban development, active industrial and manufacturing facilities, and solid waste facilities (e.g., landfills).  In addition, over the past 10 years, Sanborn Head has made a strategic decision to invest in developing an Energy Practice that has quickly been established as a leader in the natural gas infrastructure design space, particularly due to our expertise with liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) engineering design services.

With these services in mind, Philadelphia naturally emerged as an attractive market over the past five years due to its robust industrial and manufacturing past, location at the confluence of many exciting energy-related developments surrounding the Marcellus Shale natural gas formation, and relative proximity to other major markets within the Northeast Corridor. Since we were already serving several clients in the region, we thought that this would be the right time to invest in some “boots on the ground” to help better serve existing clients in the region and seize additional opportunity in the Delaware Valley. As a first step, Sanborn Head engaged the Chamber as a partner for this expansion and quickly found this to be a fruitful strategic relationship, particularly through our involvement in the Greater Philadelphia Energy Action Team (GPEAT).  Though all of our services have found a niche for expansion in the region, the primary driver of this expansion has been our specialized LNG and CNG engineering practice.

In closing, Sanborn Head is excited and proud to be a part of the Greater Philadelphia community and has been welcomed to the region with nothing but open arms. We are excited to build out our staff in the region and are confident that Greater Philadelphia will be a great place for Sanborn Head to grow and thrive in both the short and long term.
