The following letter was sent by the PHL Neighborhood Growth Project to neighborhood, business, and civic leaders.
We live in a world where the skills and training needed to succeed in the workforce are constantly changing. And here in Philadelphia, too many of our young people just don’t have access to the necessary programs they need to thrive in this modern economy.
At the PHL Neighborhood Growth Project, we believe that access to quality education and workforce development systems that are effective, efficient, agile, and accountable are needed to provide our young people with opportunities to thrive.
We can develop a world-class workforce if we focus on solutions that support:
- Hands-on training for 21st-century jobs
- Strengthening of our workforce initiatives
- Community schools
- Career pathways for returning citizens
- Funding our education system
- Meeting the education needs of today and tomorrow
- Efficiency and innovation
In just over a week, we will be discussing our “Education and Workforce Modernization” plan at the PHL NGP Inclusive Growth Hearing. At the hearing, we will be joined by Jordan Parisse-Ferrarini, Founder of Trades for a Difference; Lou Rodriguez, Founder and CEO of Rodriguez Consulting; Hassan Charles, Executive Director of Year Up Philadelphia; and Bill Stockwell, President and CEO of Stockwell Elastromerics, Inc. to learn about their work and commitment to making Philadelphia’s residents into a world-class workforce.
We must work together to make sure Philadelphia is a city where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.
