15th Annual Read to Me Storyteller Event
May 8, 2019
The Read to Me Early Literacy Program is a year-long program and partner of Read By 4th, a citywide campaign that brings together an ever-growing coalition of partners to get all children reading at grade level by 4th grade.
Thanks to the regional effort of our donors and volunteers last year, the Chamber purchased nearly 1,500 hardcover read-aloud books to replenish the libraries of participating schools — impacting 117 classrooms in 25 schools this year.
Contributions to the program provide new and refurbished classroom libraries and book bags to Philadelphia public schools for the 2019 – 2020 school year, teacher workshops for best practices on early literacy, and reading tips to parents and caregivers.
A special thanks to our title sponsor Wells Fargo.

Future Ready: Career Paths for Middle School Students
May 23, 2019
The goal of Future Ready is to provide students with in-classroom instruction followed by a unique experience where they have the opportunity to visit a local company to meet and interact with professionals in a workplace environment. This year, we took 12 classrooms to 20 prominent area businesses to expose students to a variety of professions, the importance of setting goals, and different work environments.
A special thanks to our title sponsors CHUBB and Citizens Bank, along with host companies who participated this year.
On May 23, GBCA hosted students from Edwin M. Stanton School as part of the @ChamberPHL Future Ready Program. We hope that someday we may see these students in the commercial building industry! #excellenceisbuilding #workforcedevelopment #FutureReadyPHLhttps://t.co/LhoqybvSPA pic.twitter.com/ascwpcPOcf

We are proud investors of WorkReady, a citywide effort that addresses the skills gap by preparing young people for future employment. WorkReady is managed by the Philadelphia Youth Network. Our interns Barry and Iyendae started on July 8 and will be gaining valuable work experience at the Chamber for six weeks this summer.
