The Chamber’s Arts + Business Council for Greater Philadelphia (ABC) is excited to announce the re-launch of Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA), an opportunity for regional arts organizations to access pro-bono business consulting. Established in 1981, the mission of BVA is to build the capacity of creative nonprofits and solidify connections between the business and arts and culture communities. In partnership with Temple University’s Fox School of Business, BVA leverages the Arts + Business Council’s corporate network to provide more than $1 million in pro bono consulting services annually.

BVA offers business professionals the opportunity to lend much-needed and valued support to the region’s arts and cultural community, while also expanding their skills and growing their networks. Prospective business volunteers can apply to join ABC’s pipeline of over 100 business professionals poised to offer top-quality services to participating arts organizations. Volunteers specialize in areas such as accounting, finance, human resources, marketing, communications, and strategy, and commit to three to 12 months of guidance for their assigned organization.

Arts and culture organizations in need of assistance related to one or more of the above areas can apply to BVA and, with the help of the Fox School of Business’ MBA students, take on a project to implement a new business strategy. The MBA students help define the organization’s needs and identify the needed professional skills in order to develop a scope of work for engagement between the business volunteer and the organization. To apply, arts and culture organizations must serve in the Greater Philadelphia area, be a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, and have an active Board of Directors.

By matching business professionals to the region’s creative nonprofits, BVA plugs the expertise of the business community into the needs of the creative economy. The deadline to apply for both business professionals and arts organizations is Monday, September 2, 2019. Projects are scoped in late September and matches are subsequently made in the fall.
