For over a decade, the Chamber has been an enthusiastic employer partner for WorkReady, a citywide career readiness initiative managed by the Philadelphia Youth Network. WorkReady provides meaningful career exposure to our city’s in-school and out-of-school youth and young adults. Participants, who range from ages 14 – 21, complete a six-week internship with participating employers. This model provides a critical entry point to our city’s workforce.
Last summer, both through WorkReady and the Hub at PA CareerLink® West, we hired Darius Saxby, a high school senior who joined our team as an intern. We even kept him on after the WorkReady summer cycle and have since transitioned him to a bona fide Chamber employee.
Darius is just one example among many of how WorkReady provides meaningful career exposure to our city’s youth and incorporates each individual into our city’s workforce.
Although Darius will be leaving us this fall to study at La Salle University, we are renewing our commitment to WorkReady this summer and hiring additional interns.
Will you join us in this important effort?
