Green Lawn Fertilizing / Green Pest Solutions is both the largest privately owned and operated lawn care company and pest control company servicing the Greater Philadelphia region. Providing personalized service, their professional technicians have all been through rigorous hands on training by certified applicators and are properly licensed, insured, and certified by the state.
Having run a landscaping business in college, Matt Jesson, President & Owner of Green Lawn Fertilizing/Green Pest Solutions, discovered that the most profitable part of his business was fertilizing and weed control for lawns.
“The marketplace in Chester County did not have many local fertilization companies,” explains Jesson. “So I decided to focus entirely on fertilization and weed control, and started Green Lawn Fertilizing.”
Eight years down after Green Lawn Fertilizing’s launch, Jesson began the pest control business, Green Pest Solutions, after discovering the “synergy of the two businesses.”
“Both lawn care and pest control are service area businesses which require you to come to your customers, so they are similar logistically,” says Jesson. “Also, they require applicator training and licensing and treating a lawn properly requires treatment for surface feeding insects.”
When asked about his inspiration, Jesson says it comes from fellow lawn care and pest control companies across the county. These companies have “come up with great ideas on how to effectively run their business and since almost all of them are regional they are largely willing to collaborate,” explains Jesson. “I have gotten inspiration from many of these company’s leaders. I have a peer group with 9 other industry owners where we talk about what is working for our companies and what is not.”
Heavily relying on the business model that “a business is only good as its employees,” Jesson describes his hiring process as extremely picky, requiring all technicians to pass a drug test and have a clean background check. In addition to reliable employees, Jesson puts great emphasis on company loyalty. He explains, “I treat my employees well and compensate them well and in turn they remain productive for my company for a long time.”
