As the Chamber prepares to welcome incoming board chairman John Fry, President of Drexel University, at our upcoming 216th Annual Meeting on Friday, October 14, we’d like to recognize the accomplishments of our outgoing chairman Denis O’Brien,  senior executive vice president, Exelon Corporation and CEO, Exelon Utilities. As a key partner and resource to the Chamber, Denis has been integrally involved in a number of initiatives and activities.

As part of a two year journey to promote regional growth by creating a climate that advances our workforce and engages our communities, Denis has been key to the creation of the Chamber’s Roadmap for Growth initiative, which engaged business and civic leaders to collaborate with Philadelphia’s neighborhoods, business communities, and City Council to identify opportunities to make the city a better place to live and do business.

His leadership  with Select Greater Philadelphia Council, supported nearly 100 engagements with business expansion services projects, hosted 44 company visits, and 36 gatherings which connected our regional business and civic leader with others from around the world.

Denis is also an active member of the steering committee for the Chamber’s Greater Philadelphia Energy Action Team (GPEAT), whose 2016 report, A Pipeline for Growth: Fueling Economic Revitalization with Marcellus and Utica Shale Gas helped underscore the importance of leveraging our region’s energy resouces.

During his term as Chairman, Denis also significantly increased the focus on diversity and inclusion through initiatives including  the Chamber’s inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Award, and support for the CEO Access Network and Diversity & Inclusion Network programming.

“It has been my pleasure and honor to serve as the Chamber’s board chairman during the past two years,” O’Brien said. “We have accomplished a lot.  But there is still more to be done.  There is tremendous momentum in our region right now, and we are well-positioned to sour to new heights.”

Denis will make his final address as board chairman at the Chamber’s 216th Annual Meeting, where we will outline our accomplishments over the past year, our top priorities and new vision of doing business in the region from Chamber President & CEO, Rob Wonderling, John Fry, President, Drexel University, and this year’s keynote speaker, Brian L. Roberts, Chairman & CEO, Comcast Corporation.
