More than five years ago, Chris Cera was coming out of the first company that he co-founded, Vuzit, a startup addressing the universal, enterprise-level method for sharing, viewing and controlling documents, images and other sensitive content on the web. After Vuzit, which was acquired by Accusoft, he had a few startup ideas of his own. He wanted to explore co-founder conversations and entertained the idea of bringing his technical background to someone else’s idea. During that time, he also found himself involved with technical consulting which, ultimately, led to the birth of Arcweb Technologies.

Today, Arcweb Technologies is a full service, product design and development firm that builds web and mobile technologies for Fortune 500 companies to growth stage startups spanning a variety of industries. When asked what makes his business unique, Arcweb CEO, Chris Cera said, “For one, we keep a flat, open floor plan that gets rotated every six weeks. We call it touring. The idea is that when you sit next people you normally wouldn’t sit next to, interesting things and ideas can happen. I’ve sat next to interns who’ve sat next to engineers who’ve sat next to salespeople.”

Stemming from his own success at Arcweb, Cera says his advice to those looking to grow or start a business in the region includes:

Align your business with the strengths of the region. Philadelphia is a great town for B2B and pharma and you’ve got every major bank represented just down I-95 in Wilmington.
Focus on revenue over raising money
Get involved in the community. This is particularly true for entrepreneurs and startups. There is so much happening in the tech community here and you absolutely get out of it what you put in.
