PHILADELPHIA, Thursday November 6, 2014 – The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber) in partnership with 4th District Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. hosted its fifth Listening Tour session in the Roadmap for Growth campaign. Community groups, engaged residents, Partner organizations and others discussed the best ideas to encourage economic growth and create jobs. About 40 people attended last night’s meeting at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia West Hotel.

“Getting feedback from Philadelphia residents and community groups about how to grow the city is an important part of this campaign,” said Joe Grace, Director of Public Policy for the Chamber. “Our fifth Listening Tour session allowed us to converse with a diverse audience and produced some great ideas.”

Some of the suggestions from last night include:

-Encouraging anchor institutions in the city to use more local suppliers and products;
-Staggering or using tiers for the 10-year tax abatement in order to capture lost tax dollars and manage development; and
-Moving more City services—like permitting through the Department of Licenses and Inspections—online to lessen the burden on small businesses and create more efficiencies.
