The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) commends the Pennsylvania General Assembly for passage of a comprehensive transportation funding plan.

GPCC President and CEO Rob Wonderling praised members of the state House of Representatives and Senate who supported action on an investment strategy that will ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods, services and people throughout the Commonwealth.

“A strong transportation system is the lifeblood of a robust economy. Funding transportation investments is particularly important as the economy continues to recover. Transportation funding creates jobs, leading to both construction and manufacturing jobs throughout the supply chain. Addressing these issues now will jump start our economy and provide long-term benefits to our regional economic competitiveness.”

He added, “Potential transit service reductionsnew weight restrictions on area bridges, deteriorating road conditions and increased congestion threaten our region’s mobility. Investment is needed now in all elements of Pennsylvania’s transportation network; our highways, bridges, transit systems, rails, ports and airports. The Chamber applauds this vote by our public officials in Harrisburg and thanks Governor Corbett for his tremendous leadership on the issue.”

As the premier advocate for the region’s business community, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce works to attract, retain and grow jobs for companies and residents, promotes sound public policy, and offers outstanding programs and benefits. A private, not-for-profit organization, the Chamber represents 5,000 member companies in 11 counties across three states with one voice.
