On April 27, 2013, JDRF, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, will hold their annual Promise Ball to raise funds for diabetes research. JDRF will honor Sue Schick, chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare of Pennsylvania and Delaware, at the ball for her contributions to the nonprofit organization, which include several years of service as the corporate chair for the JDRF’s annual Walk to Cure Diabetes.
“I truly believe in our corporate mission to ‘help people live healthier lives,’ but helping people afford medical treatment through insurance is just one piece of the pie,” says Schick. “For diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, there is no cure, so scientific research is our only hope to help those affected by the disease. Nonprofits like the JDRF remind me of just how difficult life is for people who suffer from diseases like type 1diabetes, and the need to support as many avenues of research as possible in the hope of finding a cure.”
Sue is involved in several other charitable health organizations, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the March of Dimes.
