The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) applauds Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett’s proposal to increase transportation infrastructure funding and fully supports the recommendations of the Governor’s Transportation Funding Advisory Commission.
GPCC President and CEO Rob Wonderling, who served on the Governor’s Transportation Funding Advisory Commission, said “We commend the Governor for taking steps now to address this critical issue. A safe and reliable transportation network is vital to a strong economy and provides a key competitive advantage for attracting and retaining businesses and growing jobs.”
“With the recent passage of Public Private Partnership (P3) legislation, Pennsylvania is well positioned to not only repair its crumbling infrastructure, but to begin to modernize its last century transportation network. For our region and state to emerge from this economic downturn ready to compete on a global scale, our infrastructure needs cannot be ignored or delayed further,” added Mr. Wonderling.
To improve mobility and ensure continued economic development, GPCC has consistently supported adequate transportation infrastructure funding for all modes, including roads, bridges, transit, ports and aviation systems. The Chamber looks forward to working with the Governor and General Assembly on a long term funding solution.
