The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Eastern Pennsylvania hosted their Kick Off Celebration on Monday, January 30th at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Radnor to announce their 2012 candidates for the Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign.
Candidates will be competing for the title of Man & Woman of the Year for the next 10 weeks, where they have agreed to utilize their leadership abilities to conduct their own fundraising campaigns for LLS. Every dollar counts as one vote. The male and female candidates with the most votes are named the Chapter’s Man & Woman of the Year. Their totals are then considered in naming national titles.
Money raised will benefit LLS’ mission to cure blood cancers and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. This year’s fundraising is in honor of two patient heroes, the 2012 Boy & Girl of the Year are Andrew Clark of Chester Springs and Bryn Henry of Coatesville.
“We are so grateful for the support of these fine men and women who will set out on an amazing journey to raise money for lifesaving cancer research,” said Maida R. Milone, the Executive Director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter.
The following individuals have committed to joining this year’s campaign:

- Anthony Falco, President & CEO of Strategic Wealth Management Advisors
- Brian Klick, Teacher at Harriton High School in Lower Merion School District
- Matt Krueger, Manager at Victory Brewery
- Gary Rathsmill, Board of Trustees of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of LLS
- Rob Shangraw, Financial advisor for First Financial Group of MassMutual
- Michael Walsh, Number 1 salesman at Audi of Wynnewood
- Meghan Miller, Graduate student at LaSalle University
- Bridget McMullin, Owner of The McMullin Design Group, LLC
- Denise McQuillan, Owner of Hand and Stone Massage and Facial Spa
Winners will be announced at the Grand Finale at the Union League of Philadelphia on Thursday, April 12th. The night will be a celebration of all the candidates’ collective efforts as they enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, live and silent auctions, and dinner and dancing.
In 2011, 12 candidates collectively raised over $350,000. Joel Alter of Philadelphia earned the title of Man of the Year and Ann Marie Hagen of West Chester claimed the title of Eastern Pennsylvania Woman of the Year with raising over $100,000.
