Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett has a long and distinguished career serving the citizens of the commonwealth. Before becoming Pennsylvania’s 46th Governor, Corbett was a prosecutor, Pennsylvania Attorney General and key advisor to U.S. Presidents and Governors.
Governor Corbett’s vision for an ever-improving and evolving Pennsylvania is what brings him to Philadelphia to accept an award which spans international borders as well as the past, present and future of Pennsylvania citizens.
As this year’s 14th annual recipient of the Friend of Chile Award, Governor Corbett represents all of the hardworking people who began this relationship forty years ago. He represents the generations of Pennsylvanians who secured, shipped, transported and enjoyed the international fruits and produce that come through the state’s harbors from Chile. The Friend of Chile Award is a tribute to the commonwealth’s longstanding diplomacy and relationship. Chile has never had a more appreciative set of friends, than the ones they have in Pennsylvania.
Chile has another great friend in Peter Kopke, Senior, who is receiving the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his innovative work, pioneering the Chilean grape business in the United States starting in the 1960s. Today, William H. Kopke Jr. Inc. is the largest importer of Chilean grapes in the world. His vision and ingenuity broke the grip of Winter and made fruit available to our region all year-round, while creating jobs throughout the Delaware Valley.
