Join Philadelphia’s own Koresh Dance Company this week as we take the stage at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre on Broad Street from Thursday, May 5 to Sunday, May 8. The program will feature artistic director Roni Koresh’s newest piece, Through the Skin. This evening-length work is designed to bypass the intellect, engaging the audience on an emotional and visceral level . . . directly through the skin.
Koresh Dance Company was founded in 1991 by Israeli-born choreographer and artistic director Roni Koresh. Since then, Koresh has become one of Philadelphia’s top dance companies with a reputation for technically superb dancers and engaging, passionate performances. They tour extensively across the nation and abroad and continue to attract increasing audiences of all ages.
In 1993, Roni founded the Koresh School of Dance to serves as the company’s home and provide a dance training center for the Philadelphia community. The school offers classes for both children and adults in a range of styles and levels; approximately 2,500 students come through the studio doors each month. The company and school are also committed to community outreach. Koresh Kids Dance provides free dance classes to students in several Philadelphia schools, giving children arts education they might not have otherwise. The Koresh Artist Showcase is a series of performances that invites local choreographers to present their work at no cost.
As an organization that sustains a touring company, a school and outreach programs, Koresh Dance Company truly has become an establishment that is vital to the community. Whether on the road or at home, Koresh is making it known to the world that Philadelphia fosters creativity and artistic excellence.
