The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to advocating for sound policy on issues that affect the regional business community. Recently, the Chamber announced its 2011 highest-priority Public Policy goals:

1. [City] Create a competitive climate for business growth in Philadelphia by:

  • Streamlining municipal government and the processes that impact the business community
  • Establishing a more business friendly tax structure
  • Backing a responsible budget that promotes true municipal pension and healthcare reform
  • Supporting candidates for City Council and Mayor that support the issues important to the business community

2. [State] Support real reform in Harrisburg including:

  • Building strategic alliances to advance a competitive business climate
  • Tort reform
  • Improved efficiency and support for Pennsylvania’s programs that assist those in need
  • Efforts to reform K-12 education and improve outcomes through alternative solutions including school choice and voucher programs
  • Pension reform
  • Exploring new ways of funding infrastructure projects including Public Private Partnerships
  • Restoration of adequate funding for higher education institutions
  • Reform of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program investment process

3. [Federal] Advocate business-friendly positions on issues in Washington, D.C. involving:

  • Healthcare reform
  • EFCA
  • Energy infrastructure
  • Small business funding

4. [Region] The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce will continue to work with the CEO Council for Growth and Select Greater Philadelphia to enhance relationships and cooperation among regional leaders to:

  • Support Surface Transportation reauthorization
  • Seek improvements to facilities and services at Philadelphia International Airport
  • Improve mobility along the US 422 corridor
  • Foster infrastructure improvements at our ports
  • Promote improvements to Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor
  • Advocate for resources to increase entrepreneurship and commercialization
