The Chamber has long backed efforts to integrate ex-offenders into the workplace, e.g., support for a business privilege tax credit for businesses hiring ex-offenders, support for a grant from the Knight Foundation for training purposes, encouraging our membership to hire ex-offenders when at all possible.  As where the “Fair Criminal Screening Standards” bill is well-intended in its goal to assist ex-offenders find gainful employment,  we remain concerned that the legislation still poses significant challenges for employers while leaving open the potential for liability issues and therefore, cannot support the bill in its present form.
