The Chilean American Chamber of Commerce (CACC), an affiliate of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (GPCC), will be honored at a special Chilean reception for its contribution in helping Chile become a major exporter of fruit to North America.

The reception, which will be held on September 30, 2010 in Washington, D.C., will celebrate the bicentennial celebration of Chile’s independence, and the 75th anniversary of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX).

In the last 20 years Chilean fresh fruit exports have tripled, reaching more than 100 markets with 75 varieties of fresh fruit. The trade balance between Chile and the Greater Philadelphia region is approximately $1 billion and is generated from fruit shipments through the Delaware River, which have created 2,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs. Over the past decades, the United States has become Chile’s main destination market with a 30 percent share of Chile’s total exports. Today, Chile is considered to the main southern hemisphere fresh fruit exporter to the United States and the world.
