On November 6, 2008 there’s going to be a party – not just any party. As the Vice President, Sales & Marketing at Finch Brands, it’s my job to stay out there and keep my company, Finch Brands, top of mind as the leading business & brand building firm. I’m at a lot of these events. There is no better event than this one. Why, you ask?

The bottom line is this: This isn’t just a party, it’s a celebration of business in our great city. And when I say business, I’m talking about the best kind – the kind that is born from spirit, drive and entrepreneurship.

It’s about giving a well-deserved 10 small businesses in greater Philadelphia a night to remember, in recognition of their accomplishments.

In 2002, my creative marketing boutique won the Chamber’s nnovative business of the year award. From there, additional press followed, supporting a growing snowball of attention, culminating in the sale of my company. These awards are a catalyst for growth and accomplishment, but more importantly, recognition of it.

And while Finch Brands has grown to support clients internationally, including Everlast Worldwide, Lord & Taylor, Herman Miller, Modell’s Sporting Goods and more, we always remember our humble beginnings in a windowless cubby on North Delaware avenue – as a company we love supporting the greater Philadelphia area, and support the next generation of category dominators – and that’s why leading this program is so special to me. I love being a part of the unbridled enthusiasm you can only find in a small entrepreneurial venture.

Friday’s breakfast on September 19, was the show before the show, where we welcomed new recipients into the fraternity that is the Excellence Awards inner circle. We had a great showing, and the winners should be particularly honored because the competition was even more fierce this year than in years past, with a record number of nominees, thanks to increased awareness of the awards (thanks, Chamber) and a new online nomination system, leveling the playing field of entries and making it easier to enter, and compare.

This year is sure to take the program to a new level based on the enthusiasm of the winners, the awards committee and of course, the Chamber.

Rock on.
